Área demonstrativa de manejo florestal em escala empresarial
Essa área demonstrativa é o resultado do encontro de um pesquisador e um empresário do setor florestal, logo depois da Rio-92.
O passo seguinte foi levantar recursos junto a empresários suíços. Os recursos levantados foram suficientes para comprar uma área de 80 mil hectares na região de Itacoatiara (AM) e adquirir equipamentos e montar equipes para manejar (explorar seletivamente e beneficiar a madeira) uma área de 2 mil hectares por ano.
Atualmente, a empresa (MIL Madeiras Preciosas) tem uma área de 400 mil hectares e maneja uma área de 11 mil hectares por ano, que coloca 200 mil m3 de madeira em tora na sua serraria e 60 mil m3 de serrados para o mercado.
Demonstration area of forest management in industrial scale
This demonstration area is the result of the meeting of a researcher and an entrepreneur from forest sector, after the UN Conference on Environment and Development, Rio-92. The following step was to raise funds for the project with Swiss entrepreneurs.
The funds raised were enough to buy 80 thousand hectares of pristine forests in Itacoatiara (AM) region, and to purchase equipment & machineries and to set up a team to manage (logging and sawing) 2 thousand hectares per year.
Today, the company (Precious Woods Amazon) is the owner of 400 thousand hectares and is managing 11 thousand hectares per year, which supply its sawmill with 200 thousand cubic meters of roundwood, and the market with 60 thousand cubic meters of sawnwood.
